Naturopathic Medicine

Naturopathic medicine is a distinct primary health care profession, emphasizing prevention, treatment, and optimal health through the use of therapeutic methods and substances that encourage individuals’ inherent self-healing process.  The practice of naturopathic medicine includes modern and traditional, scientific, and empirical methods.  Schedule a complimentary 15 minute consultation to discuss your unique needs.

The following principles are the foundation of naturopathic medical practice:

Treat the Whole Person

Naturopathic physicians treat each patient as a distinct individual.  We recognize the numerous influences on one's health.  This includes the physical, emotional, genetic, spiritual, environmental factors and their innumerable combinations.

The Healing Power of Nature

The most formidable tool in a naturopathic physician’s toolbox is the body’s own ability to heal itself.

Identify & Treat the Causes

Naturopathic medicine views symptoms as an indication of a deeper problem. So rather than simply suppressing the symptom, the focus is on treating the source of the problem.

First Do No Harm

Minimizing the potential for side effects, naturopathic therapies are gentle, nontoxic and noninvasive.

The Doctor as Teacher

Naturopathic physicians believe informed patients become more active participants in their own health and might even inspire others to do the same!

Prevention

One size does not fit all when it comes to health. Naturopathic physicians customize each patient’s health regimen, then partner with him or her to attain it. Prevention is the best strategy for better health!

Testimonials

"Dr Borkowski is extremely knowledgeable and values the human component very much. She is concerned with me and about me - not just a patient in and out the door. She takes the time necessary to properly evaluate and makes sure you the patient understands. Highly recommended!"

Steve B.

"Dr. Borkowski goes above and beyond in her care, not only as an engaging caring person, but someone who also offers recommendations for overall optimal health. She takes the time to listen to your needs, and I never felt hurried like I have at other care practices."

Therapeutic Massage Techniques

Targeted Musculoskeletal therapy

Manual therapy encompasses an array of hands-on techniques aimed at decreasing muscle hypertonicity, muscle spasm, and joint restriction. Treatments range from gentle to more-aggressive treatments depending on your individual tolerance and treatment goal. In addition, flexibility and strengthening exercises may be incorporated into your treatment plan in order to facilitate proper tissue healing and maintain tissue flexibility.

Whole Body Massage Therapy Treatments

The above therapies may be used as an adjunct to your existing care or you may wish to benefit from a more generalized relaxation treatment.

Acupuncture

Acupuncture involves the insertion of very thin needles through your skin at strategic points on your body. A key component of traditional Chinese medicine, acupuncture is most commonly used to treat pain. Increasingly, it is being used for overall wellness, including stress management.

Traditional Chinese medicine explains acupuncture as a technique for balancing the flow of energy or life force — known as chi or qi (chee) — believed to flow through pathways (meridians) in your body. By inserting needles into specific points along these meridians, acupuncture practitioners believe that your energy flow will re-balance.

Constitutional Hydrotherapy

This type of hydrotherapy involves applying a series of hot and cold towels to the chest and back.  Naturopathic physicians use this method for promoting overall health and immune system strength. If indicated, this therapy is performed using a sine wave (electrical stimulation) in order to enhance the treatment.

Dietary Counseling

Holistic natural physicians believe that what you eat is the foundation for your health. Adopting a healthy diet is often the first step towards correcting health problems. Many medical conditions can be treated more effectively with foods and nutritional supplements –  and with fewer complications and side effects  –  than by other means. We recommend individualized diets, nutritional supplements and fasting when necessary to optimize health for each patient.
